Hema Malini's driver held after car accident in which a child was killed

Jaipur: The Rajasthan Police this morning arrested driver of Bollywood actress and BJP lawmaker Hema Malini after her car was involved in a fatal accident, killing a four-year-old girl and leaving several others injured including the politician late on Thursday night.

The arrested driver was identified as Mahesh Thakur who hails from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. The 35-year-old driver was booked under section 304-A of IPC which is a bailable offence.

The incident took place late yesterday night when the actress's Mercedes collided with an Alto car in Rajasthan.

The 66-year-old member of Parliament was travelling to Jaipur in her Mercedes car while the other vehicle, a hatchback, was going to Lalsoth from Jaipur.

According to the local MLA Shankar Lal Sharma, a girl child had died in the accident. He further told that Hema had injuries above her eyes, on her back and legs and he had driven her to the hospital in his car as she was in severe pain.

A team of Dausa police arrived in Jaipur, where the incident happened, and arrested the driver Mahesh around 7:45 am on Friday.

According to a newspaper quoting Rajesh Tyagi, Deputy superintendent of police, said, "We have arrested him under section 304-A (Causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) which is a bailable offense." The driver would be taken to the accident site fo the spot verification, he added.

While, the police official Tyagi has refuted the reports which said that Hema Malini was driving the car. He said, "The airbags of Mercedes car were opened properly on the driver and his next seat on the left while the airbag of the backseats including the left side where Hema Malini was sitting did not open and there was blood on the left side where she was sitting thereby clarifying that she was not driving the vehicle."

The actress is being treated in a city hospital. According to the Television channels report Hema Malini’s daughter, Esha Deol, reached the Fortis hospital, where her mother was undergoing medical scans.

The doctors at the Fortis hospital will also organize a press conference to give details on the health conditions of the MP.
