Asaram to remain in jail as court again rejects his bail plea

Jodhpur: The bail application of 73-year-old self-styled godman Asaram Bapu was rejected by the court for the sixth time on Saturday.

Additional District and Sessions judge Manoj Kumar Vyas denied the bail after looking into the facts and circumstances of the case.

The complainant's advocate, P. C. Solanki said, "We had urged the court to look into the circumstances under which the crime was committed and after considering everything court decided to reject the bail plea of Asaram."

On Friday, the BJP leader and leading lawyer Subramanian Swamy had argued for about an hour on behalf of Asaram, who is in jail for over 20 months, before a court here, after which the decision was kept reserved till June 20 i.e. Saturday.

After the arguments, Swamy, who hoped positive for the Asaram's bail, said he has done his best and the order would be in Asaram's favour.

"I have done my best to prove that Asaram has been implicated and has been kept in prison on the basis of circumstantial evidence," he said.

Swamy on Friday had said that if the bail was not granted, he would move higher court. He added, he would ensure Asaram's bail as he deserves it.

Swamy, who had met Asaram in jail on April 23, had assured him of pleading for his bail, but alike senior and well-known advocates, such as Ram Jethmalani, Salman Khurshid, who tried their best to get him bail, Swamy too had his bad-luck in his first attempt.

Notably, Asaram is lodged in Jodhpur jail following his arrest in September 2013 for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in his ashram near here.

Asaram's bail pleas have earlier been rejected by the Rajasthan high court and the Supreme Court.
