Dalit-Jat clash: 3 killed as Dalits crushed under tractors in Nagaur District

Nagaur: In a shocking incident over land dispute between two groups, three Dalits were mowed down by tractors after one member of the dominant Jat community was killed in Rajasthan's Nagaur district.

Dalits from Nagaur district and surrounding villages have fled after this incident.

Rajasthan's Home Minister Gulab C. Kataria on Saturday said police are investigating the alleged crushing of three Dalits under tractors after a clash with Jats, and added that the state government did not have a 'magic wand' to trace the accused immediately.

"The police are investigating the case. It might take two to three days more, but we will find the accused. There is no such case left in Rajasthan which has not been solved. We do not have a magic wand to immediately find and arrest the guilty," said Kataria.

Ratna Ram, Pokar Ram and Pancha Ram were run over and killed while seven other persons were admitted to a hospital in Ajmer.

According to the police, the incident took place in the Dangawas village near Merta village when two groups had clashed with weapons.

As per the reports, the Dalit families of Ratnaram Meghwal, Gutaram Meghwal and Khemaram Meghwal, and the family of Chimnaram Jat are in legal dispute with each other over land for years but the situation went worst when a Jat panchayat was held on Thursday and Dalit families called to it.

The Dalit families reportedly fearing for their life opened fire at the Jat community in which one Rampal was killed.

Thus, Jat community started chasing the Dalit families with their tractors, attacking their homes and their women.
After the attack, the injured were rushed to hospital which was reportedly surrounded by hundreds of armed persons to prevent Dalits from receiving treatment. Police had to be called in to ensure safety of the injured Dalits.

Police have registered a case against 12 persons for murder. Heavy security has been deployed in the area but no arrests have been made so far.
