Good news: Book your train bedrolls online and also at food plazas

New Delhi: In order to make passengers' train journey much more comfortable, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced an all new facility for its passengers. Under this new scheme, train passengers can now book bedrolls online and also at the IRCTC-run food outlets at stations.

“As a passenger-friendly measure, we have introduced e-bedroll facility that allows passengers to order bedrolls online and also at the counters of food plazas at stations,” IRCTC CMD A.K. Manocha said.

Initially, the facility will be introduced at New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Mumbai Central stations on a trial basis.

The facility can be availed by paying Rs 140 for two bed sheets and a pillow and Rs 110 for a blanket. These can be purchased together at a cost of Rs 250 or can be purchased separately.

"A major feature of the scheme is that the bedroll is a takeaway facility and passengers can take it home," Mr. Manocha said.

Currently, bedrolls are provided only in AC classes in trains, now there is arrangement for sleeper class passengers to avail a takeaway bedroll kit at a highly concessional price, he said.

Moreover, if a passenger of AC class also likes to buy a fresh bedroll he can also opt for this service. The bedroll kit can be booked on e-ticketing site of IRCTC.

“Passenger can also purchase them from the IRCTC’s vending units at the station,” he said.
