A step towards mending ties; Pak invites India for key Afghan conference

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has been invited by the neighboring country Pakistan to attend a key conference 'Heart of Asia' on Afghanistan, which is likely a step towards mending the unfriendly ties between the two countries.

The conference will take place on December 7 and 8, where representatives from Azerbaijan, China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and the UAE are expected to attend.

"A formal invitation has been sent to India and 25 other countries for the Heart of Asia ministerial meeting on Afghanistan to be hosted by Pakistan", a senior Foreign Office official said.

New Delhi has received the invitation but the decision of attending the conference is yet to be taken, said an Indian diplomat on condition of anonymity. The source also said that a high-level delegation headed by the minister is likely to be sent there given the importance of the conference.

The conference is held to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan focusing mainly on helping the country's economy.
