Southern California has been struck with a strong earthquake causing heavy loses to properties. This earthquake has been reported to be the strongest in the last two decades and the epic centre of the quake as strong as 6.4 richter scale was closer to 150 miles (240 km) north-east of Los Angeles in a city called Ridgecrest. No lives have been to reported claimd due to the quake as it was in the outer regions of the town, far from the population centres, however people reported feeling the quake on the Independence day.

The fire broke out due to the earthquake, fire brigades thus, had to provide assitance and medical help to the people round the city. Local geophysicist Professor John Rundle in his statement said that, this may not be over. There could be more earthquakes happening in the area and anyone listening that's in that region should be prepared to drop cover and hold on. The major earthquake lasted for long and people felt the earth vibrating for some 10-15 seconds with several smaller aftershocks too.
