 Security beefed up after a foreigner spotted flying a drone near Parliament

New Delhi: An unidentified foreigner has been caught on camera flying an instrument suspected to be drone at the high security Vijay Chowk intersection close to Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament. The incident came to light on Saturday when a media personnel spotted the foreign national standing at the pavement with a remote control in his hands. The foreigner man is said to be of Russian decent.

"It was around 20-30 feet above the ground. The person had a remote control in his hands and was busy flying object before being interrupted," said a police officer.

The media personnel told the police that after he confronted the foreign national, he stopped the device and fled in a car, parked near the pavement. His car had a diplomatic registration number, pertaining to the Russian embassy, the media personnel told the police.

The incident was caught on camera and the footage, in which the foreigner is seen sporting a white T-shirt and shorts, has been given to Parliament Street police station, said the police official.

According to police, a special team is studying the video footage and action would be initiated accordingly.

The only concern is whether the flying object was fitted with a camera which might have been used to click pictures of the area, the official said.

Meanwhile, following the incident, security was tightened in and around Parliament Street and several police teams were deployed in the area.
