AAP MLA Manoj Kumar arrested in Land Fraud case, sent to two-day police custody

New Delhi: AAP legislator Manoj Kumar on Thursday has been sent to two-day police custody by local court after he was arrested by the Delhi police in land grabbing case.

In May, a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Manoj Kumar, a Delhi lawmaker from Arvind Kejriwal's ruling Aam Aadmi Party, at New Ashok Nagar police station of East Delhi in May.

The Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said this afternoon, "this is an old matter related to land fraud. Questioning of Kumar is on as of now."

A case of cheating was registered against the Kondli MLA following allegations that he duped his business partner of Rs.6 lakh. Vinod Kumar, the complainant, has alleged that Manoj used to be a property dealer before venturing into politics.

Vinod claimed that he was Manoj's business partner and in November 2012 he had given him Rs.6 lakh to purchase a plot but the current AAP legislator did not repay the amount.

According to the police sources, "Vinod also alleged that Manoj produced fake proprietorship documents of a plot in Kondli area of East Delhi and accepted Rs six lakh from a man named Vijay Kumar. He made the deal on the plot by showing it as his own, which is now said to be owned by one M.L. Verma."

This morning, Manoj Kumar was produced before the court here after being questioned by the Delhi Police. He was then sent to two-day police custody.

Notably, Delhi's law minister, Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested from his constituency office on June for allegedly submitting fake academic documents to Delhi Bar Council for registering as an advocate.

Recently, Tomar's judicial custody has been extended by the Delhi court till July 20.

A day after Jitender Singh Tomar's arrest in June, the wife of Somnath Bharti had filed a domestic violence case against him.

Lipika Mitra had accused AAP MLA Bharti of dowry harassment, sexual and mental torture and infidelity. Lipika also filed a complaint with the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW).
