Viral Acharya, the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India has decided to resign from his post citing personal reasons. The RBI in its official statement said that Acharya had submitted his papers before his term ends. "Acharya submitted a letter a few weeks ago saying he was unable to continue his term beyond July 23 due to unavoidable personal circumstances," stated RBI.

There had been differences amidst the government and the RBI since Acharya gave a fiery speech last year.There are still hopes within the ineternals of RBI of Acharya's returning. The RBI DG for now has made no statement on his behalf about the resigning but has communicated with the RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das about the same, say reports.

Viral Acharya joined RBI in 2016 from New York University's Stern School of Business and had a tenure of 3 years that was suppose to end in 2020. The search and selection of new DG would not be taking place anytime soon owing to the recent elections and the formation of new government. Besides Acharya. Raghuram Rajan and Urjit Patel had been the RBI DG to have quitted their post before their term ended.
