New Delhi: Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chaterjee died on Monday at 8:10 am in the Kolkata hospital. He celebrated his 89th birthday on June 29th.

According to the sources, Chatterjee was in and out of the hospital, since he had stroke in the end of June. Chatterjee, who was suffering from a kidney related ailment was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. He was admitted to Belle Vieu Clinic. Team of 12 doctors had constantly under- observed the veteran politician. 

According to the information, Former Lok Sabha speaker and expelled member of CPM , Chatterjee was born in a family of renowned lawyers and parliamentarians, he had a splendid qualities, which he gained from the training in England. 

He had complete his Masters in Law from Cambridge University. He remained Lok Sabha speaker from 2004-2009. Mr Chatterjee was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for 40 years since 1968, represented the party 10 times in parliament.

President Ram Nath Kovind said that the sudden death of veteran politician Somnath Chaterjee is a loss for public life in Bengal and India.
