    5 killed as building collapses in Bhiwandi, toll may increase

At least five persons were killed and many injured when a two-storey building collapse in Bhiwandi near Mumbai on Sunday morning amid heavy rains.

It is been said that the Kabir building situated in Garibi Nagar area in Bhiwandi was in poor condition.

All of a sudden at around 9.15am it came crashing down.It is noticed that about 7-8 families were residing in the building.

Later, Firemen and policemen rushed to the site to supervise the relief and rescue operation.

According to the police, the number of people trapped in the debriswas not known yet.Officials said, Heavy rains were affecting the rescue operation.

Thane district disaster cell spokesman said that at least 5 persons were killed and 10 others injured, including one seriously, in the building collapse. The injured were rushed to Thane Civil Hospital.
