New Delhi: The Indian Women Cricket team defeated South Africa by 88 runs in their first ODI on Monday. Team India scored 213/7 in their stipulated 50 overs. They had a good start. Later the duo of Jhulam Goswami  4/24  and pacer Shikha Pandey 3/23 together shared seven wickets  which created a backbone for India's victory.

Winning the toss India elected for batting started well with a fifty-run partnership between openers Punam Raut and Mandhana, But Raut was dismissed in between by scoring 19 runs only after which Captian Mithali Raj came into the field and the partnership of Mithali and Mandhana together stitch 99 run .

Only captain Dane van Niekerk, who was ultimately dismissed by Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s left-arm spin, stood out with a resilient 88-ball 41 as just four South Africa bats women reached double figures. It was Pandey and Poonam Yadav (2/22) who dismissed the top-four within no time before Goswami came in to mop up the rest of the batting.
