The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to support N Srinivasan during the  forthcoming Board elections.

On Tuesday, Srinivasan met Union Finance Minister and Delhi District Cricket Association chief Arun Jaitley in Delhi and somehow managed to secure their support for the coming elections.

Now, this seems rather odd given the Supreme Courts observations on the the workings of the BCCI in the recent past and also their order which had explicitly asked Srinivasan to choose between the Chennai Super Kings and the BCCI.

The Supreme Court had also recognised that the BCCI could not be trusted to wield its own broom.

"The power to punish the guilty vests with the BCCI but in the current context it cannot be left to the BCCI", the court had said.

The SC had also said, "If the purity of the game is undermined then the essence of the game will be lost".

But the essence of the game has already been long lost on the Board that puts profits ahead of the game itself, and prime mover in that direction was Srinivasan. While it is important for the BCCI to make a profit, it is also important for them to ensure that the game and the fans are well taken care of.

The Indian team has been on a losing streak on 'away' tours and in-stadia conditions haven't exactly improved for fans. This has resulted in people not turning up to watch important Tests and the BCCI just doesn't seem to care.

And there will be further evidence of that if they decide to vote Srinivasan back into power.

Srinivasan requires 16 votes to win the election, if the BJP do come good on their promise, then he already has 12 votes in his kitty.
