New Delhi. The Padmavati controversy has started taking heads with  BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu, who had threatened actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali over Bollywood movie Padmavati, resigning from the post of party’s Haryana Chief Media Coordinator. The period drama has been in the news for quite some time as Shri Rajput Karni Sena threatening to vandalise if the movie is released with their consent.

Suraj Pal Amu had announced a reward of Rs 10 crore for beheading the actress. Following this, state BJP president Subhash Barala on November 20 had issued show-cause notice to Amu “for giving a statement contrary to the party line”.  Suraj Pal on Wednesday said he resigned from the party post as he did not want his party to get into any kind of controversy. He however expressed his displeasure over CM and other party functionaries’s views on the controversy.

In a letter, through Whatsapp, to Barala, Amu said he was upset with the behaviour of the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar with a delegation of Rajput community on Tuesday.

“The BJP had given me chance to work with senior leaders not only from Haryana but also from the Centre…Now, I have started feeling that the Chief Minister doesn’t need dedicated workers and office-bearers anymore,’ said the BJP leader.

Barala confirmed receiving a message through Whataspp but the party is yet to take a call on his resignation. “He has given the resignation from the post only not from the party,” Barala added.

On November 25, the Shree Rajput Karni Sena demanded a complete ban on ‘Padmavati’ in Haryana. Khattar had, on November 22, said Haryana will take a decision on permitting screening of film ‘Padmavati’ in the state after it gets clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
