Army truck falls into Ganga canal in Ghaziabad; 6 jawans rescued

An army truck lost balance in an attempt to save another vehicle and fell into the Upper Ganga canal early morning today. The incident occurred on National Highway 58 at Murad Nagar in Ghaziabad in which six jawans were saved.

Police say that the truck carrying six army personnel was headed to Delhi from Meerut, which fell into the canal after breaking the roadside safety barrier at around 8am.

"It was a foggy morning and we heard a loud bang at our nearby police post. Our personnel rushed to the spot and found that the truck fell straight into the canal. The army jawans swam to the top of the vehicle which did not submerge into the water fully. They were helped out by divers and boats available at the site", said Raj Kumar Yadav, station house officer at Murad Nagar police station.

"All the six personnel were saved and brought to the banks of the canal. It seems the army vehicle lost balance while trying to avoid some other vehicle on the highway", Yadav said.

Authorities in Meerut have been informed by the police about the incident.
