Ghaziabad: 65-year-old man arrested for raping 6-year-old girl in creche

Ghaziabad: A 65-year-old man has been arrested on Tuesday on charges of raping a six-year-old girl child in a creche located inside an upscale residential township adjacent to NH-24 in Ghaziabad. Police said the accused, the father-in-law of the playschool owner, has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The alleged assault came to light on Tuesday after the child complained to her parents, both of whom are employed with private firms in Noida, of being inappropriately touched by an elderly gentleman - whom she referred to as "dadu" (grandfather) - inside the school premises. The child reides with her parents in an apartment in the township.

A leading newspaper quoted the girl's father as saying: "My daughter had been going to the playschool for the past three months. We admitted her to the playschool because me, as well as my wife, are working professionals. She used to spend around two to three hours at the playschool every afternoon. The playschool staff used to drop her back home every day."

He added, "On Tuesday, she complained to us that an elderly person in the school had been misbehaving and molesting her for some time. So we decided to lodge a police complaint."

Based on the complaint filed at the Vijay Nagar police station on January 12, Ghaziabad Police has registered an FIR under sections of the IPC including 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural sexual offences). Relevant sections of POCSO Act have also been invoked in the FIR against the accused.

The girl was sent for a medical examination by police.

The accused, who is the father-in-law of the woman who runs the creche, was arrested on Tuesday.
