The Ghaziabad police have arrested Amit Jat alias Amit Chahal - who carried a bountry on his head - along with another criminal, Shailendra, a police officer said Wednesday.

A team of the Crime Branch of the police held the dreaded criminal and his accomplice.

Superintendent of Police Ajit Pal Sharma, at a press conference Wednesday, said on a tip-off from an informer, the Ghaziabad police nabbed the criminal from a canal near Sadarpur under Muradnagar police station.

While carrying out an extensive checking of vehicles, police asked the one with the criminals in it to stop.

However, the criminals tried to flee but a police team gave chase, overtook their car and forced it to stop.

During sustained interrogation, they revealed their identity as Amit Jat, who is also known as Amit Chahal, and Shailendra.

Amit hails from Bahadurgarh in Hapur district and Shailendra is a resident of Harduaganj in Aligarh district.

Over 20 criminal cases are registered against him in different police stations of Ghaziabad, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Noida and Delhi.

Police also found that he had been declared a proclaimed offender by the Ghaziabad, Patiala House, Tis Hazari and Saket courts.

The total prize announced on him by the courts is Rs.24,000.

The police also recovered two country-made pistols, four live cartridges and a car from their possession.
