Accident disrupts evening traffic on e-way

An accident near Jharsa Chowk led to huge traffic snarls on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway on Monday. Traffic movement was blocked for over an hour on the stretch between Signature Tower and Rajiv Chowk, after a truck overturned near Jharsa Chowk. Police officials said that the situation worsened as traffic volume was relatively high on Monday as compared to other weekdays. "The jam was the result of a truck turning turtle on the e-way near Jharsa Chowk. Traffic from the Rajiv Chowk roundabout was slow because some traffic moved towards the Delhi side from Jharsa side. So, the ripple effect was seen on both sides of the expressway," said a city traffic police official posted on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. After the accident was reported around 4 pm, a crane was rushed to the spot but as the truck, which turned turtle, was fully loaded, the crane also leaned on one side and another crane had to be sent to lift the first one, an eyewitness told TOI. "Commuters had to face a harrowing time on the e-way till the truck was removed to the service lane," said the cop. In fact, only around 5 pm, the truck could be removed from the main carriageway to the service lane. After nearly an hour, the traffic situation turned smooth, the official said.
