VHP leader in Agra shot dead by unidentified assailants

Bike-borne assailants in Agra shot dead Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Arun Mahaur today while he was on his way to a temple. The incident took place in Agra's Mantola area, police said.

40-year-old Mahaur was vice-president of the Agra unit of VHP.

Following this incident, hundreds of activists of various Hindutva groups gathered at the hospital, roamed the streets, shouted slogans and tried to block traffic. All the shops in Nai ki Mandi area have been closed as a precautionary measure.

The body of deceased has been sent or postmortem and search for the killers is underway, said senior police officials.
