Conjoined twins die on way to AIIMS in Delhi

Conjoined twins who were born in Agra on Wednesday, died on their way to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Friday evening. The twins were being taken to AIIMS for treatment.

Pradeep Singh, father of the infants said, "My daughters could not reach AIIMS. Now I am returning with their bodies to Agra".

The doctors in Agra had been working desperately to separate and save them since their birth but had to sent them to the premier hospital for further treatment. However, the twins passed away at around 7:30 pm near Ballabhgarh.

A senior pediatrician, Sanjay Kulshrestha, said, "It appears that they died of infection, which had spread from the weak infant to the healthy one".

"During the afternoon, when we were examining them in order to surgically separate them, we came across a yellowish pattern on the chest of one of them. We immediately decided to transfer them to AIIMS", he added.
