Health Department directed transparency of rate list in private hospitals

Private nursing homes have been directed by the Health Department to display rate list of the various diagnosis and treatments.

The directive comes in wake of rising incidence of attacks on nursing homes by patients' attendants on charges of exorbitant fee.

Commissioner BK Singh had recently asked health department officials to ensure transparency in treatment at private hospitals.

He had instructed that the patients should be informed about the fee structure in advance.

"It is the right of a patient to have prior knowledge of the cost of their treatment. The rate list should mention expenses that a patient will be bearing on diagnosis under various heads, expenditure on treatment ranging from dressing to surgery. The admission charge in general ward, private and ICU should be mentioned under separate head", said a health department official.

Strict action would be taken against the hospitals not following the order.
