'Misbehaving' bahus get 20 lashes in public in Moradabad

An order of 20 lashes each to two women was given by a village panchayat in Moradabad after their mothers-in-law alleged that they refused to prepare a meal for them and wash their clothes.

The incident took place in Salawa village in Moradabad's Kanth tehsil after the mother-in-law allegedly complained to village elders that her daughters-in-law had not given her food or washed her clothes in the absence of her sons.

"The police are investigating the matter and the victims have been sent to Moradabad district hospital for examination", SP (rural) Prabal Pratap Singh said on Monday.

"We are talking to local residents and trying to confirm the fact that a panchayat had been called. If the panchayat was indeed called, we will take strict action."
