CM Akhilesh Yadav writes to Centre for AIIMS set up in Gorakhpur

Lucknow: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written to the Union government seeking the setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur where the Uttar Pradesh government has already allotted land for the project. Mr. Yadav will be visiting Gorakhpur on Thursday.

According to the content of the CM's letter, which was released on wednesday, it said: “The UP government has allotted land for construction of All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur. Now, it is up to the Union government to set up the premier institute there.” The letter was written to Union Health minister JP Nadda.

The CM said that Gorakhpur is a hot bed of deadly disease - encephalitis which takes the lives of hundreds of children every year.

“The UP government has initiated projects after which the toll has come down. Still the area needs a specialised hospital as  along term panacea,” said Mr. Yadav.

“Once the land has been allotted, the onus is now on the Centre to set up the suiper speciality hospital in Gorakhpur. The state government will extend all possible help,” he promised.

Mr. Yadav said that the Centre had conveyed to the UP administration that the land given for AIIMS was not appropriate as the road leading to it was not proper. “If that is the case then we are ready to construct a four-lane road connecting the proposed site for the institute,” he said.
