PM Modi, Arvind Kejriwal to attend Ravidas Jayanti in Kashi on Feb 22

New Delhi: The holy city - Varanasi - is all set to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal participating in Guru Ravidas's birth anniversary celebration at his birth place in Seer Gowardhan area on February 22. It will be CM Kejriwal's first visit to the city after 2014 General Elections.

Both the PM Modi and Delhi CM Kejriwal would be attending the Ravidas Jayanti programmes in Varanasi for the first time. While PM Modi is also proposed to address a public gathering of Ravidasiyas near Ravidas temple in Seer Govardhanpur area, the Aam Aami Party (AAP) UP unit has not yet received a detailed programme from Kejriwal.

“Arvind Kejriwal is visiting Varanasi on Ravidas Jayanti to offer prayer at Ravidas temple. But a detailed programme of his entire schedule is yet to be received,” said Vaibhav Maheshwari, spokesperson of Uttar Pradesh unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). 

Reportedly, over one lakh dalit Sikhs (also called Ramdasia Sikhs) from Punjab reach Ravidas Temple in Seer Govardhan area of Varanasi every year. These followers of Ravidas also take out religious procession from Ravidas temple in the city. Ravidasis will start reaching Varanasi from February 20 and they will stay their till February 22 or 23.
