Shinzo Abe, PM Narendra Modi to attend "Ganga Aarti" in Varanasi today

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Saturday will visit here to attend the "Ganga Aarti" at famous and beautifully choreographed ritual worship of the holy river performed each day at the fabled Dashashwamedh Ghat.

Japanese premier Shinzo Abe, who arrived in New Delhi on Friday evening, will be engaged in talks with PM Narendra Modi on a variety of issues today. Bullet train deal will be on top of their agenda, among a civil nuclear deal and other issues related to infrastructure and economic cooperation.

After the summit level talks, both the Prime Ministers will leave for Varanasi, which is PM Modi's Parliamentary constituency, where they will be the part of the most famous Ganga Aarti at famous Dasaswamedh Ghat.

At least, along the 25-km stretch of road between Babatpur airport and Dashashwamedh through which the convoy of Premiers will pass got a makeover.

A gigantic make-shift stage has been erected on the river bed with the help of pontoons and a music system has been installed with special permission from the Allahabad High Court.

The visit came in the backdrop of a part of the Partner City Agreement between Kyoto and Varanasi signed by the two leaders during PM Modi's trip to Japan in August last.

It is for the first time that Prime Minister Modi will visit his constituency with a foreign dignitary.
