Samajwadi Party leader shot dead by Motorcycle-borne miscreants in Azamgarh

Varanasi: BJP leader Jainath Singh has demanded CBI probe into the murder of Samajwadi Party leader Shailendra Singh who was shot dead on Sunday.

Former gram pradhan (village head) Shailendra Singh, 45, who was also secretary of the Atraulia assembly segment of the SP, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne miscreants near Hisamuddinpur village.

Preliminary investigation indicated that rivalry over a contract for road construction work was the motive for the murder.

The incident took place in the morning around 8 am, when Shailendra Singh was inspecting the road construction work at Hisamuddinpur village. Singh had bagged the contract for the work recently.

Superintendent of police (rural) Mohammad Irfan, circle officer Brijendra Pandey, station officer Brijesh Yadav and other police personnel rushed to the spot. As the news of SP leader’s murder spread in the district, hundreds of Samajwadi Party leaders reached the district hospital.

Manhunt to nab the killers have been launched by the police.
