The Pillar of under construction flyover collapsed in near Cantt railway station in Varanasi, several labourers and commuters were feared trapped under the debris. According to reports several cars also seen trapped into the portion of collapsed flyover.

The NDRF team reaches the spot with many senior police and administration officials.Rescue work underway.

According to the fresh reports more then 12 people have been killed in flyover pillar collapse, and many more feared trapped in the rubble.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister yogi Adityanath and also expressed his grief.

“I spoke to UP CM Yogi Adityanath Ji regarding the situation due to the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi. The UP Government is monitoring the situation very closely and is working on the ground to assist the affected,” PM Modi added in another tweet.

Uttar Pradesh government announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for dead and two lakh for seriously injured.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief over the tragedy and tweeted:

 Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will soon arrive on the tragedy spot.
