Five of family killed, 7 injured in road accident in Kanpur

Kanpur: At least five persons, including a seven-month old infant, died and seven others were severely injured in a SUV-tractor collision near Ganga Barrage area of the city on Sunday.

The incident happened when the family was returning from Saket Nagar locality after attending a wedding ceremony of their relative. On their way back home, a speeding tractor-trolley hit the SUV they were travelling in, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Mohini(40), her daughters Saniya (10) and Runjhun (7 months), her sister-in law Mala (37) and the SUV driver Rajesh (40), they said.

While the injured were identified as Mahesh, Ritu, Kusuma, Sakshi and three others have been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital in a critical condition.

According to the police, the tractor driver absconded from the spot. Police has seized the tractor and search for its driver is on.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and investigation has been initiated, they said further.
