Muharram: Special Control Room in Kanpur for ten days

Kanpur: A special control room has been set up by the district administration to keep a vigil and handle any law and order situation during Muharram processions in the city.

"The control room will be operational from tomorrow for ten days. It will be in service round-the-clock," District Magistrate Kaushal Ram Sharma said.

Both police and district administration will be on alert during this period, he said, adding that videography of all the Muharram processions will also be done.

The biggest concern for the police is to manage about two lakh devotees, who will hit the road bare footed during the Muharram procession,  DM added.

To ensure that the procession is taken out smoothly, we have requested their head Khalifa to give identity cards to the devotees and submit a list of their names to the district administration, he added.
