SP has become party of mute : Mulayam Singh Yadav

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday threatened party leaders and workers with ouster if they failed to ensure the victory of party candidates in UP Legislative Council (MLC) polls. Elections to 36 MLC seats are scheduled to be held on March 3.

Addressing the newly elected Block Pramukhs, village Zila Panchayat members and district panchayat chairman - who form the electoral college for the MLC elections and had gathered at the party headquarters to meet the SP president - Mulayam said: "Agar MLC ka chunav nahi jitaya, aur hum beech mein aa gaye , to chheh mahine mein avishwas prastav la kar, hata diya jaayega," (If you fail to ensure the victory of MLC candidates, then I will see to it that a no confidence motion is moved against you and you are removed from the post within the next 6 months."

SP chief also pulled up the party leaders and workers for not publicizing and promoting the achievements of the SP government in Uttar Pradesh. "Lagta hai Samajwadi Party Goongon ki party ho gayi hai," (It appears the SP has become a party of the dumb people.)" Mulayam said, directing the party leaders to spead the message about the good policies and projects of the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government during their interaction with people.

Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mulayam said: "You don't know how clever they are .... They will take away all your votes like they did to defeat the Congress party in the previous polls."

Mulayam said people had the power to remove Modi and asked party workers to go to the masses and inform them about the failures of the BJP government.

Speaking openly against his senior party leaders for the first time, he took on former ministers Narad Rai and Ambika Chaudhary, who left the venue while Mulayam was addressing the party workers. "They don't move around among the people. Ambika Chaudhary lost the assembly elections because of opposition from the youth. When it was pointed out to him, he dismissed the issue describing them as hoodlums and criminals," SP chief said.
