PACCFED chairman Totaram arrested for booth capturing in Mainpuri

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leader and chairman of Processing and Construction Cooperative Federation Limited (PACCFED) Totaram Yadav was on Wednesday arrested by the UP police in Mainpuri for allegedly booth capturing during the recent Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls.

Totaram, who enjoys minister of state rank, was arrested by SHO (Kotwali) Manohar Singh outside a school when he came out after attending a sports week function there. The function was also attended by PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav who was the chief guest.

Totaram had approached the Allahabad High Court for quashing the case registered against him but the court had dismissed his plea.

The minister along with his 20 aides, including the presiding officer, were booked by Mainpuri police for booth capturing in Bewar block in October. The decision to lodge an FIR was taken after a two-minute video went viral on WhatsApp in which he was purportedly seen capturing a booth. Totaram, had, however claimed that it was a conspiracy against him.

Reportedly, when Shivpal was asked to comment on sharing the stage with Totaram, who was wanted by the police, the minister said the "law will take its course" and he left.

Minutes later, the wanted minister was arrested by the police.
