Swine flu cases cross 1,000 mark in UP; 793 test positive in Lucknow alone

Lucknow: It seems as the deadly disease, Swine Flu has been gripping the state, as at least 61 new cases of the virus reported from various districts, rising the total number infected by H1N1 virus to 1000 across Uttar Pradesh.

According to the reports, three persons succumbed to the flu here in last two days, however, health officials have not confirmed the deaths.

"On Tuesday, 61 cases were reported from the state, taking the total number of affected cases to 1,036," said an official.

Reports from King George’s Medical College (KGMU) said that Shahida Khatoon of Banda district and Ram Chandra of Mau district passed away due to swine flu on Monday. On Tuesday, another patient Vinod Kumar also reportedly passed away in Lohia hospital here in the state capital.

“We have not formally received any reports of these deaths,” said Lucknow chief medical officer (CMO) Dr SNS Yadav. The death toll is still eight in Lucknow, he added.

Till date, as many as 793 patients have tested positive for the flu in Lucknow-highest in any district of the state. In all 16 persons have died officially across UP-eight in Lucknow, three in Bareilly, two in Kanpur, and one each is Saharanpur, Unnao and Badaun due to the virus.
However, with gradual increase in temperature, experts hope that there would be a decline in the number of cases.
