Drivers not wearing helmets and seat belts should be denied fuel

The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department on Monday suggested that people not wearing helmet and seat belt while driving vehicles should not be sold fuel.

This decision is administered to avoid the number of accidents that take place.

In a letter written to all District Magistrates,Transport Commissioner K Ravindra Naik said as per the data provided by the traffic directorate,a total of 1,200 accidents took place between January 1 and March 31 this year and 594 people were killed in the mishaps.

He said under the Central Motor Vehicle Act,it is mandatory for the driver to use helmet while riding a two-wheeler and seat belt while riding a four-wheeler.
