'Dalit icons ignored for Bharat Ratna', says Mayawati

BSP chief Mayawati criticized the government for ignoring the dalit icons while awarding the Bharat Ratna.

"Dalit icons were ignored while awarding Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malviya", she said.

Mayawati also said that the government failed to fulfill the promises made before the Lok Sabha elections last year as it has not done anything for the betterment of the poor and the underprivileged since coming to power and was yet to bring back the black money stashed abroad.

"BJP-led NDA government at the centre has failed to deliver on the promises that it had made during Lok Sabha elections. It's been around seven and a half months since BJP came to power and they have shown no inclination to do something for the betterment of the poor and the backward people", Mayawati said at a press conference.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said the Central government had ignored the poor, Dalits and the people from religious minorities.
