Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government cleared the detailed project reports (DPRs) for metro rail projects in its four major cities in a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, approved DPRs for Kanpur, Meerut, Agra and Varanasi.

Each four proposed cities for the metro project has something special in them such as Agra is a big tourists’ attraction because of the Taj Mahal and various accompanying monuments, whereas Varanasi is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While Meerut being the commercial capital of Uttar Pradesh has innumerable business houses and industries.

According to our sources, this approval by the Samajwadi Party government is being seen in connection to attract voters for the state assembly elections to be held in early 2017. The work on the ambitious projects will kick start by 2015.

 

Work on the first phase of the Lucknow Metro Rail is already underway and the state government is making ensure to get the phase completed by December 2016.
