Rajasthan mines bribery scam: Top officials arrested

Rajasthan mining scam was busted on Wednesday by a special team of state's anti-corruption bureau (ACB) followed by the arrest of six people including top government officials. The officials were involved in bribery case containing nearly Rs 4 crore in cash.

Principal Secretary (Mines) Ashok Singhvi was taken into custody, hours after senior officials of the state mining department were reportedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe for resuming operations of a mine in Chittorgarh.

Reports say that Singhvi was found to have allegedly masterminded the entire bribing racket, in collusion with 'middleman' Sanjay Sethi. The officials are searching his Jaipur residence for more clues, asserting that his arrest is imminent.

Shyam Singhvi, a chartered accountant was also arrested and Pankaj Gehlot, additional director, mines, has also been taken into custody as he is said to be supervising the entire deal.

The bribe was given by Sher Khan, a mining merchant, who wanted to resume operations of some mines he owned in Chittorgarh.
