PM Modi to attend FIPIC summit today in Jaipur

Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will attend the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit at Rambagh Hotel in Jaipur.

FIPIC will be taking place in a bid to expand its economic and strategic footprints in the region amid China's increasing presence.

The island nations which are taking part in the FIPIC summit include Cook Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Niue, Palau, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. The delegates and ministers of all these 14 Pacific island nations are going to be present in the Summit.

Being organized in less than a year, it is the second Summit of the FIPIC as the first Summit was held in Suva, Fiji on 19 November last year.

Ahead of the meet scheduled for today, PM Modi has expressed hope that the summit will strengthen India's bond with the fourteen nations.

PM Modi took to micro-blogging site Twitter to deliver his message and wrote, "I welcome all the leaders and delegates who are coming to India for the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation."

"I am very optimistic about FIPIC Summit. Am sure it will strengthen India's bond with the Pacific island nations," he added.

The sectors that India will look for deeper cooperation with the island nations include oil and natural gas, mining, IT, health care, fishing and marine research.
