The Yogi Adityanath government on Friday issued an order to prohibit the use of plastic in Uttar Pradesh. The ban will come into effect from July 15 in the state.

Uttar Pradesh government has issued an order to ban the use of plastic in the state from 15th July.

On being asked about government's decision to ban plastic, UP minister Shrikant Sharma said, "Our rivers are getting heavily polluted due to plastic waste and our religious cities are the most affected as a lot of devotees, who come there, leave the plastic waste behind after bhandaras".

In 2016, a similar prohibition was enforced in Uttar Pradesh but it failed to show signs of success. 'Lack of alternatives' was one of the key reasons behind the failure.

The district administrations in Uttar Pradesh, however, had claimed that necessary steps were taken to curb usage and productions of plastic bags.

While a fine of Rs 5,000 was made mandatory for offenders, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board also initiated actions to stop the cross-border transfer of plastic items.

Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board chairperson Waseem Rizvi has sparked a fresh heating issue. In his latest statement, Rizvi has stated that keeping a beard is a custom in Islam. But those Muslims who sport a beard without a moustache are extremists and have become a face of terror in the country and across the world.

In a video, which has been shared on the social media, Rizwi said, "Muslims who sport a beard without a moustache look scary. Such Muslims are extremists and Islamic fundamentalists and are known to spread terror across the world. The intention to not sport a moustache with the beard is to ignite a sense of fear among people."

Adding further, he said that such Muslim, in the name of Shariyat, interfere in the personal lives of people and issue fatwas, which has nothing to do with Islam. Talking about the recent incident in which a Kerala girl was expelled from a Madrassa for wearing a sandalwood bindi on her forehead, Rizvi said, "Women in this country use bindi or vermilion (sindoor) as part of the custom after marriage. Such sacred customs can never be 'haram'."

He urged the government to file sedition charges against clerics for issuing fatwas that give rise to enmity between different groups. "There is no right to make rules and regulations for the common people by moving aside from the Indian Constitution. Case of sedition must be filed against mullahs (clerics) who issue such fatwas."

It is to be noted that the UP Shia Waqf Board chairman Rizvi was recently accorded a Y plus security by the state government after he claimed threat to his life.

Three men have been caught on camera molesting a woman in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. In the video, the victim can be heard pleading, "Don't do this, brother (Bhaiyya aisa mat karo)". However, unperturbed by the pleas, the men continued their act and recorded it on camera. The video recorded on July 5 has since gone viral.

Taking swift action, the police have arrested two men in connection with the case while the search is on for the third accused. The two arrested men have been identified as Rahul and Akash.

The police are now trying to find the source of the video. "A video from Unnao in which 3 men are molesting a woman has gone viral. We are are trying to find the source of the video. Our team is working on it. Strictest action will be taken against the accused," Anoop Singh, SP, North Unnao said.

Unnao had grabbed headlines earlier this year after a woman had alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar at his residence on June 4, 2017, when she had gone to meet him seeking a job.

In February, the girl’s family had moved the court, seeking to include the MLA’s name in the case. Subsequently, the victim’s father was booked by the police under the Arms Act on April 3 and put in jail on April 5.

Frustrated with the alleged police inaction and coercion from influential people, the victim attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence on April 8. The next day, her father died in jail with the post-mortem examination report suggesting serious injuries on his body.
