BJP activists angered by city's poor roads,bordered on PWD office

Bhartiya Janta Party activists in Pithoragarh furious by the condition of roads encircled the PWD office.

According to them, abandoned soil at road construction is causing problems for the common people.

BJP activists said that the functioning of the PWD is very slow which is causing the delay in the construction.

The angry activists also warned that if the completion is not done sooner, fierce movement will take place.

Muzaffarnagar clash, six people injured

Two groups from different communities clashed over an alleged eve teasing incident in Vehelna village here. At least six people were injured in this incident.

According to police, the two sides involved in throwing stones and attacked each other with sticks yesterday after a quarrel erupted over a girl being allegedly harassed by youths.

Six people were admitted to the hospital and a case has been registered.

Muzaffarnagar Dispute: One killed and three injured

A clash broke out between two groups over construction of a drain at Tigri village under Newmandi police station area where one person was killed and three were injured.

A verbal duel between Gayyur and Dhaniram yesterday turned violent and both the parties used firearms. In the clash Gayyur was shot dead and three others were injured, SP City Sarvan Kumar said.

A case has been registered and further investigation is taking place against five persons identified as Vinod, Mangey Ram, Sanjay, Ramkumar and Ashish.

Iskcon temple at Mathura sets on fire

The administrative complex of an ISKCON temple in Mathura was set on fire late on Thursday night destroying many important documents and items.

According to the fire officials, fire trucks were immediately rushed to the spot and the flames were extinguished after more than three hours of firefighting. No casualties were found.

Temple secretary Madhav Indu said that the fire broke out in the administrative complex ahead of the night rituals when devotees in good numbers had gathered. Within minutes, the fire spread to the office of the General Manager, store room and nearby rooms and destroyed documents and other items.

The cause of fire was not immediately found out and the temple authorities were estimating the loss caused by the fire.

NRI billionaire pledges Rs 500 crore for Uttarakhand development

A charitable organisation founded by billionaire NRI entrepreneur Manoj Bhargava has pledged Rs 500 crore to fund development activities in Uttarakhand.

On the occasion of its fifth anniversary, the Hans Foundation, which works closely with NGOs by providing them financial assistance in 25 states, announced the decision at a function here last evening.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has welcomed the initiative.

"I am inquisitively waiting for the project to start. A lot of work is being done by the organisation in the state at the individual level. Thousands of people are being helped especially in healthcare sector where they have established two hospitals in Kotdwar and Haridwar already", Rawat said.
