"BJP is behind Dadri lynching incident," says Azam Khan

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Azam Khan today blamed the Prime Minister Narendra-Modi government for the Dadri lynching incident.

Taking on PM Modi, Azam Khan alleged that BJP is behind the Dadri incident and it's trying to stoke communal tension in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections in the state, adding, it is trying to replicate their Muzaffarnagar riots strategy again.

Khan further said, “Prime Minister, please rein in your volunteers. Life, politics and posts are not forever but infamy remains forever. You have not been able to wipe out Gujarat taint and until this world lives, it will never be wiped out. Don’t make your volunteers do these things. Where are you taking the country to?”.

The UP government has given Rs 10 lakh to the kin of a 50-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq, who was allegedly lynched by a mob following rumours that his family was involved in the slaughter of a cow in Dadri area of Gautam Buddha Nagar district on Tuesday.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also ordered free treatment of Ikhlaq's 22-year-old injured son, who was mercilessly beaten by the mob. He is being treated in a private hospital in Noida.

State Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also instructed the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, Noida to provide full protection to the family of the victim.

Notably, on Monday night, Mohammad Ikhlaq was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son was injured critically over rumours that they were eating beef. According to police, the incident took place after an announcement about the same was made at a local temple.

The rumours began when a calf was reported missing in the village, police said.
