Lawyers on strike today against Allahabad incident

Murder of an advocate in the Allahabad High Court has brought the lawyers across the country together protesting against the incident.

The strike of the lawyers has paralysed work in courts across the country. The strike call was given by the Bar Council of India.

"The Bar Council of India strongly condemns the ghastly and brutal killing of a lawyer by police officials in court premises at Allahabad (sic)", BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said in a press release issues last week.

"In order to show their solidarity, the lawyers across throughout the country shall abstain from attending their works on 16th March. This decision is taken after consultation with chairmen of all the State Bar Councils (sic)", he added.

Police inspector Shailendra Singh allegedly shot dead 30-year-old advocate Nabi Ahmed over a tiff at the Allahabad High Court on March 12.
