Akhilesh's dream projects: UP Government approves Bicycle Highway between Taj and lion safari

With a view to encourage Eco-tourism in the vicinity of the TajMahal, the Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav gave its nod to develop the 'bicycle highway' which will not run along the Agra-Etawah main road but will cover various historical and tourism centres, an official spokesman said.

Starting from eastern gate of the Taj, it will cover areas such as Raja Bhoj ki Haveli, Bateshwarnath Temple, Mela Kothi Jarar, and Naugava ka Quila and other rural areas to reach lion safari in Etawah, the spokesman said.

The 197-km “bicycle highway” is a dream project of Akhilesh, which he had announced during the first-ever UP Bird festival in Agra in December last year.

While the distance between Agra and Etawah is about 155 km, the “bicycle highway” will take several detours covering several places of historical and tourism importance in the two cities.

In another major decision, the cabinet cleared a proposal to auction the “VIP” registration numbers for vehicles.

So far, there was a fee set for “attractive and significant” numbers, which were issued on first come first serve basis through online registration.

The Cabinet also approved the Rs 346 crore construction cost for an international cricket stadium in Akhilesh’s native village Saifai, also in Etawah, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, sources informed that a proposal to amend the rules for registration of Hindu marriages was also supposed to be taken up by the cabinet.

The proposal, however, was withdrawn at the last moment as it needs some more amendments.

A new ultra modern state-of-art model bus station would be constructed at Kaiserbagh bus station in the state capital.
