Gujarat is all set to conduct the bypoll elections for two of it's Rajya Sabha seats. Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly, Pareshbhai Dhanani filed a petition and asked the SC to interfere in the RS bypolls howvere, the Election Commission intervened into the affair and opposed the issue. After this, the Apex Court declined the Congress plea to interfere into the bypolls.

With having 71 off 182 seats in Gujarat Assembly, Congress had chances of winning one seat for the Rajya Sabha in these bypolls, but BJP being the ruling party has an advantage of more chances of winning both the seats easily. Post filing of the plea, the Election Commission of India came into the matter and issued SC a notice. In this notice EC oppossed the issue. It also said that once the bypolls are notified, the Judiciary can not interfere into it.

These two Rajya Sabha seats from Gandhinagar and Amethi went vacant post the Lok Sabha General elections with BJP's Amit Shah and Smriti Irani winning the MP seat in May.
